5 Professional Photo Shoots Your Small Business Needs

Professional photographs are an important marketing tool for your small business. But while most company owners may realize the need for one type of professional photo session, many staff do not often recognize the value of a number of other great photo opportunities they're missing. What are some of these? Here are five professional photo series your company should have.

1. Staff Headshots. Headshots are, of course, the most common staff photo series, and for good reason. Professional headshots can be styled any way you wish, allowing you to better capture the spirit of your business and its philosophies. These pictures most often end up hanging on a wall on company property, but they'll also be important for business cards, website bios, and targeted product releases.

2. Your Products. While you want to show your management and staff in their best light for customers, your products or services should get the same treatment. Beauty shots of what you produce are invaluable for placement in brochures and print media, on websites, in show booths, and even murals. Don't rely on candid, low-quality pictures of what you want people to buy.

3. Having Fun. Headshots have their place, but they don't fully project your employees' personalities and strengths. Why not add a few pictures of staff enjoying themselves or behaving candidly? A photographer might catch staff enjoying their actual work or you might organize an outside activity to get everyone involved. This helps customers see a new side of the company and relate to everyone.

4. Your Property. If you have physical property, get professional shots of it as well. Certain standard pictures—such as the exterior, interior welcome or common areas, and your main production area—are good for introducing the business to customers through marketing material. But work with your photographer to find other ways to highlight the best your property has to offer.

5. Community Involvement. Today's customer is more interested than ever in supporting local businesses that share their values. Help your customers see your brand values by getting quality photos of your community involvement. This might be a volunteer workday, receiving some local award, staff mentoring young people, or participating in a local 5k race, for instance. Because these are action shots, though, don't rely on amateurs and cell phones for usable pictures.
